We’re here to show you how to make your TV screen sparkle and de-gunk all the accessories that go along with it.
How to Clean Your TV Screen Without Damaging It
There’s nothing like an LCD or OLED screen that displays vivid colors and sharp details. If you want to enjoy better contrast, brighter whites, and darker blacks, you’ll have to keep your screen clean. However, since modern TV screens are sensitive, soap and other household cleaning products containing harsh chemicals can wreak havoc on them in a snap.
The last thing you want is to use the wrong cleaning methods and end up invalidating any warranty that may still be in effect. Here’s the right way to make your flat-screen TV sparkle and shine without causing damage to it:
STEP 1: Turn it off and unplug the TV.
Don’t even think about cleaning your TV screen while others are trying to watch it. Avoid this safety hazard by turning it off and letting it cool down before unplugging. Besides being safer, switching the TV off before you begin to clean allows you to see the smudges and fingerprints better.
STEP 2: Grab a dry microfiber cloth.
If your TV didn’t come with an anti-static microfiber cloth for cleaning, you should buy one that’s specifically designed for cleaning delicate items such as eyeglasses, camera lenses, computer monitors, and vinyl records; just like the one in our cleaning kit! Besides making the pressure on the screen more even, the tiny fibers woven into the microfiber cloth work to minimize the likelihood of leaving scratches on the TV screen.
Be sure to steer clear of tissues, paper towels, rags, or another type of fabric. These items contain abrasive fibers that can cause damage to the screen’s surface. Additionally, avoid using pretreated dusting cloths initially intended for wood products because they’ll leave an oily residue.
STEP 3: Gently wipe away the dust in a circular motion.
Remember that plasma, LCD, and OLED TV screens are sensitive to pressure. Pressing too hard on the screen can misalign or burn out the liquid crystals inside it. If you scrub too hard, don’t be surprised to find burned-out pixels the next time you fire up your screen.
Pick up any immediate dust and stuck-on particles by gently wiping the cloth across the screen. It’s best to turn the microfiber cloth often to ensure that you’re always using a clean segment. Don’t forget to get into the corners and edges of the TV screen.
STEP 4: Nano Magic Spray TV screen cleaner.
Although you can clean plasma, LCD, and OLED screens the same way, be extra cautious in the TV screen cleaner you use and how you use it. Be sure to use a formula that’s safe and effective on modern TV screens, like Nano Magic® nano tech-powered screen cleaner. Avoid household cleaning products and all-purpose cleaners such as Windex and Formula 409 since they contain alcohol, ammonia, and other harsh chemicals that can permanently discolor the screen.
STEP 5: Let the screen dry.
Once you’re done, use a dry microfiber cloth as you go over the screen one more time to speed up the drying process while getting rid of any residue. Be sure to check if your TV is completely dry before plugging it back in.
Traditional Tube TV Screens
Are you one of the more old-fashioned folks out there who spend a lot of their time in front of a traditional cathode-ray-tube (CRT) TV? Be glad to know that cleaning that old thing is as easy as cleaning a window because its screen is made of glass. Follow these same steps to get your tube TV screen ready for movie night.
How to Properly Clean the Remote Control
Now that your screen reveals pictures that are brilliant to watch, it’s time to de-gunk your germ-infested remote control. Follow these steps:
- STEP 1: Remove the batteries.
- STEP 2: Put the cover back on its battery compartment.
- STEP 3: Turn the clicker upside down.
- STEP 4: Shake out particles from between the buttons.
- STEP 5: Use a dry toothbrush or toothpick to dislodge any remaining grime.
- STEP 5: Wipe down the sides and back of the remote control with a damp paper towel or your favorite disinfectant.
- STEP 6: Let it dry.
- STEP 7: Replace the batteries.
